Memory loss (dementia) is usually defined as a mild downfall or decline in memory that occurs with age but does not affect or harm daily activities and does not generally aggravate. Hence, age factor plays a very important role in this. With time or due to years of constant use and biological wear and tear, the brain slowly starts losing its sharpness and gets slow in processing information and in sending and receiving signals essential to day-to-day life.

The most problematic aspect of such a memory loss is the transient forgetting of names. But there is nothing to worry about as this is absolutely normal with the people in older age. This cannot be associated with diminished intelligence or ability to learn. The only thing is that during old age, the brain takes more time to recall or to grasp new information. Such a simple forgetfulness cannot be mentioned as a disease.

Causes of Memory Loss:

1. side effect of some medication- there are a lot of medications causing certain harmful long-term effects like memory loss.

2. head injury- due to some serious injury on your head or near your brain, your memory power could suffer heavy losses.

3. alcoholism- a severe addiction of alcohol or any other addiction may prove very harmful to your brain and memory. Your ability to memorize things of the past or recent past may diminish with time at a rapid pace.

4. stroke

5. pregnancy- some pregnant women may experience short-term memory loss

These are the main factors that are responsible for it. So, its better for you to stay away from all these as much as possible. Though pregnancy, the last factor cannot be avoided and also the effect it causes is very short-lived and goes away after the birth of baby. So, there is nothing to worry about.

Alzheimer’s disease is said to be the most common form of dementia or memory loss.

To improve your memory, the knowledge of the meaning and the cause of memory loss is not enough, you must also be familiar with the signs of memory loss.

And, after that comes the tips on how to improve memory that will help you to increase your self-confidence forever, maybe you don’t feel the need to go for a doctor’s visit.
