Memorization Problems: Solved!

Do you ever have trouble remembering the names of people you meet, phone numbers or even the grocery items you need for the evening dinner and other little details such as where you put your car keys this morning? If you answered yes then you are definitely in the majority, as it is scientific knowledge that we all have our forgetful moments.

You can however reduce the incidence of forgetting both trivial and important things by following some relatively simple memorization techniques. In essence there are ways on how you focus your attention and create a meaningful connection so as to make the recalling of information, both simple and complex, at a later time. Our imagination is a great tool in helping us improve our Memorization Problems.

One of the most proven memory techniques is known as the Link Method.

Using the Link approach you link names, objects and numbers by forming a simple yet effective connection between the items involved. This method will even work well despite the fact that the items on your particular list may not necessarily be related. For example ‘coffee and sugar’ connect well yet ‘motor oil and bread’ do not, but via the Link system it will help you to recall both sets of items. So with practice the list of items to be memorized will be easily remembered no matter how irrelevant the items are from one another.

Let me give you an example. Say you need to remember five particular items. Being a cat, rice, hat, pigeon and fence. These items are entirely different and have no relevance from one another but remembering them will be piece of cake with the Link Method. What you need to do is to use your imagination for example starting on the cat. Imagine that it is a Siamese cat that eats rice. Next the rice is served in a hat but then; a pigeon comes along and starts to eat the rice. Seeing this, the cat chases the pigeon away and ends up landing in the other side of the fence. See, on this particular exercise you have been able to effectively link a series of totally unrelated items with ease.

What you can do to further increase your power of recall for the above scene would be to create details for each item. Try to imagine the colors, location and other important details of these items as you construct the scene. Experts confirm that the memory skills of a person work very well with colors. However, it is not so effective when it comes to recalling actual shapes.
