Memory Improvement
A Change For The Better

Can you remember how many times have you been driving home and suddenly you have had a weird feeling that you’ve forgotten something. You park the car and walk in the door and your husband or wife greets you lovingly and hands you your anniversary present.

It’s at this point that you again realize that another year has gone by and you have totally forgotten your wedding anniversary, yet again! If you have had this experience before, or something similar, then it’s time for you to look at making an improvement to your memory. By following a few simple brain training techniques it will be quite easy for you to make a significant improvement to your memory and by doing so you will never have to worry again about forgetting important things.

There are several different sub-categories for the various types of information and how these are stored in your memory. These include remembering dates and events, names and faces, factual information and lists. In each of these particular areas there are different techniques and tools that you can follow to help with your memory improvement.

If you are one of those people who can never remember a person’s name there are several techniques that you can use to improve in this area. The most commonly used one is to associate a rhyme with the person’s name. For example, if you are at a function and you are introduced to a new person named Tony. The first thing you want to do is to make sure that you repeat Tony’s name once or twice in your conversation. For example “Hi Tony, pleased to meet you.” This will help to reaffirm their name in your short term memory.

To help permanently lock Tony’s name into your long term memory the very next thing you do is to associate it with a rhyme of some sort for example, Tony the pony. Now, every time you see that person for the rest of the night repeat to yourself in your mind “Tony the pony” and start to imagine that person as a pony. Once you’ve got this locked into your mind it’s virtually impossible to forget Tony’s name. To make drastic changes on how to remember a person’s name and commit it to your long term memory is really that easy.

Another excellent way of further ensuring you will remember a person’s name going forward is to try to match your rhyme to a common feature about their appearance. By doing this it will help to ‘put a name to a face’ when you happen to meet them again in the future.

When trying to remember the items you have on a list use the first letter of each item to make a word or sentence. By doing this it will help you to jog your memory as to exactly what was on the list. For example if you had to go to the shops and buy 5 items you could do it like follows.

Lollies
Bread
Chocolate
Apples
Ketchup

Have a look at your list and in this case we can re-arrange it to be.

B read
L
ollies
A
pples
C
hocolate
K etchup

As you can see the first letters of these items spells the word Black. So now all you have to do is remember the word Black and when you get to the supermarket it will help you to recall that there are 5 things you need to grab and the first letters of each item make up the word B L A C K

Once you learn all these very easy memory improvement techniques you will have a fantastic highly retentive memory in virtually no time at all.
