Contrary to popular belief you do not have to be born with a great retentive memory, it is in fact a skill that you can quite easily learn. Saying that, many people have a natural ability to retain information and data, however, many of us are not so lucky and we have to train our minds.

Having a great memory requires certain skills and techniques that can be taught. These games require you to use your memory in order to win the game and by doing so you start to get better and see a marked difference in your minds retention abilities.

Remember Simon?

This is the old game where the different colored lights used to light up and you had to remember in what sequence the lights went…? The more you played the faster the light sequence got …remember?. Simon was one of the best early games to improve memory skills. I don’t know if the game Simon is still around or not but there are quite a few newer games out today that resemble Simon and build off of the initial concept. These days, with technology becoming more advanced, there are so many other games on the market just like Simon that help build your memory power. Sometimes they use the same light concept but others often incorporate sound and other variations. These are the sort of games that make you concentrate and are great games to improve memory as well as being a lot of fun for children and adults alike.

Memory Card Games

You might remember this style of game where the object was to place a series of cards face down these cards consisted of a group of various matching pairs….two Monkeys, 2 Apples an so on. Then, you would have to turn over two cards trying to find a matching pair. It has been scientifically proven that the more you play this type of game, the better your memory becomes. Just like the Simon games, the more you play the better your memory will become. Before you know it, you’ll win every time because your memory will be that fine-tuned and alert.

You can make up your own games, you just get a set of index cards and draw your own pictures on them. Make sure you design them in pairs so that you can make matching cards. This memory improvement game is an excellent tool for teachers trying to show students how to improve their memory. If you regularly play these games you will, before long, see a drastic improvement and you will be pleasantly surprised on how much your memory capacity has grown. And to think all you have been doing is using some very simple playing games to improve memory skills.
